The Sweet Life

This weekend we are so excited to have the first batch of honey harvested for 2015 and available for sale. This golden honey is very light and floral with less of the grassy notes of last season. Beekeeper Tom has been meticulously taking care of our 15 hives and still found the time to construct a new awning on our farmstand with the assistance of Dennis.

New! Browder's Quiches & More

With the Summer behind us and cooler days ahead it is the perfect time to introduce our new Browder's Birds Seasonal Quiches. Available this weekend is our Heirloom Tomato Quiche in a Rosemary Crust.   Made with our Certified Organic eggs and Certified Organic tomatoes from Sang Lee Farms, this is the perfect dish to serve for brunch or a light dinner. Sold frozen, we recommend keeping an extra one in the freezer to enjoy once the local tomato season ends.

Also available now is our Own Golden Honey Dip that many kids - and parents - enjoyed at our farm picnic. Try it with vegetables, on a sandwich or with our chicken. Since our hardworking bees have produced so much honey for the farm, we have even made a batch of Golden Honey Cakes!  Find samples this weekend at the markets and at the farmstand.

Birds and the Bees

This week we added two beehives to our farm. We'll keep two types of honeybees - Italian and Carniolan.  The Italians are gentle bees and excellent honey producers.  The Carniolans originated in Middle Europe, are extremely docile and are good builders of wax honeycombs. We're happy to report the bees approve of their new home and immediately set to work collecting pollen from a field of early Golden Rod blooms.  We look forward to offering local honey to our customers soon!

The Sag Harbor Express has published a great Harvest Magazine this month. There is a piece on North Fork 'Meat with a Local Pedigree' that talks with the farmers at McCalls Ranch, 8 Hands Farm and Wells Farm.  And check out the article on Browder's Birds and 'Chicken 101'.

Our organic eggs continue to sell out quickly each week so please come early to purchase them at your local farmers' markets!
